(Abilene, TX – January 12, 2022) – McMurry University is happy to announce that Josh Poorman ’09 joined the Division of Institutional Advancement as Executive Director of Development on January 6, 2022. Poorman brings 12 years of experience in non-profit and higher education advancement to the position.

As a key member of the Institutional Advancement team, Poorman will provide leadership and direction to the major gifts, annual giving, planned giving, and foundation relations programs as well as management for the single largest fundraising effort in McMurry history—the renovation and expansion of Garrison United Methodist Campus Center.

“Josh brings extensive experience in higher education fundraising that will certainly benefit his Alma Mater for years to come. Josh is yet another example of the outstanding talent McMurry continues to attract,” said McMurry Vice President for Institutional Advancement Michael V. Hutchison, ‘87.

Poorman is a 2009 alumnus of McMurry University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History.

He began his career at McMurry as the associate director of alumni relations and annual giving, and he returns eight years later with a wide range of experience in front-line fundraising and non-profit and higher education advancement, including at Texas A&M University Corpus Christi and Trinity University.

“It’s great to be back at McMurry! Walking across campus each day reminds me of the wonderful experiences I had as a student and how that has impacted my life. I look forward to working with alumni and friends of the university to make that McMurry experience possible for our current and future students.” said Poorman.

Josh, his wife, Kim Edwards Poorman ’09, and their three children moved back to the Abilene community in December.
