Get a Head Start on Your College Career

McMurry University provides Lift Off, an exciting summer opportunity to prepare incoming STEM students for academic success.

Lift Off is a three-week residential summer bridge program for STEM majors. Participants earn three credit hours for an engineering-focused precalculus class and three more for their First-Year Seminar during that time. Courses and projects are paired with peer-assisted learning and mentoring in a living and learning community.

  • Begin taking college classes on campus in the three weeks before Fall classes begin – complete two courses for a total of six credit hours.
  • Receive guidance from an academic coach, peer-leaders, and faculty who are focused on your success.
  • Project-based learning in a living and learning community gives you a chance to meet new friends while you participate in an experience that integrates academic and social activities. You can share your success with family and friends at a celebratory event closing the program.

Transitioning to College

The Lift Off program provides:

Ready to Apply?

Applying to the Lift Off program is easy. You will have an academic coach who guides you through the process and answer your questions. The Lift Off program application will open March 1 and the deadline to apply is June 1.

FAQs

The courses offered through Lift Off are a three-week precalculus course and a freshman seminar course. Many STEM majors can use the precalculus course to satisfy the general education math requirements. Engineering Physics and Physics majors should be comfortable moving into the required Calculus I course for the fall semester.

Lift Off will start on August 1, 2022. Classes will be held Monday through Friday with Saturday projects. The program will end with a celebration on Monday, August 22. Welcome Week starts for incoming Freshmen on Wednesday, August 24.

Incoming McMurry students who demonstrate readiness to participate in an accelerated precalculus course are eligible for this program. Placement testing will be provided as part of the application process.

Move in is Sunday, July 31 from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. You will work with your academic coach to secure housing and make plans for moving in.

The Lift Off experience will cost $425 for a meal plan, activities, and learning materials. Housing and Tuition costs are waived.

Yes, the Lift Off program is residential. Participating students will be housed in the Gold Star Residence Hall with other program participants. This living and learning community will allow you to make friends with other students with similar interests as well as provide a Resident Assistant and peer-mentor who can help you with coursework as well as college life. You will have the option of staying in your assigned room throughout the academic year.

Yes, we accept all TASFA students.

Due to the accelerated schedule of the program, missing even one class could be detrimental to your academic success. Please make sure your vacations and family events take place before August 1.
