Areas of Impact

Old Main

As the first building on McMurry University’s campus, Old Main has been a symbol of McMurry University since its founding in 1923. After almost four years of vacancy, the restoration is complete and Old Main was rededicated on Saturday, October 11, 2014, during Homecoming. An all alumni photograph in front of the historic building followed the ribbon-cutting ceremony. During McMurry’s recent Shaping the Future capital campaign the need to restore this historic building was identified. The restoration process brings Old Main into the 21st century, while keeping the spirit of the building alive. Noted as being the last historic building in Abilene to be restored by the Abilene Preservation League, the McMurry community has seen this prominent landmark come back to life as classes resumed and professors and staff moved back into the building.

Edwards Field

The dream started when McMurry added softball to its athletic programs in 2018. The idea was to use Red Bud Park for two years, which it did, and open an on-campus facility for the third year. In stepped Murray and Kathi Edwards, Edwards Field's namesake, who provided a generous donation to help fund a women's softball field, making a dream come true. Located adjacent to McMurry Baseball's Walt Driggers Field on the corner of Sayles Blvd. and S. 17th Street, this facility seats 300 fans with bleachers stretching out from the center to both sides, providing an area on each side for fans to bring lawn chairs.
